Here are just a few ideas to help get you started on your own woodworking projects, most of which can be completed in as little as one weekend:

  • Shutters can be a beautiful addition to the windows of your home. Oftentimes, homeowners find that their windows are plain and lack that special something. Well, over the course of a weekend, it is possible to build your own set of shutters in your garage or workshop. The most appealing aspect of this idea is that you can design and build the shutters according to your own taste. There is nothing better than adding your own flare to your home by creating something that everyone can see and appreciate. It is not necessary to make the shutters functional; however, if you want to, that can be accomplished simply by adding hinges to them.
  • Flower boxes are another woodworking project that can add to the beauty of your home and garden. By creating a box out of wood and then planting flowers in it, you can create the effect of a beautiful landscape. Flower boxes can be designed in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit your personal needs. You also have the ability to decorate them to suit your own taste. This can be done by adding certain accent touches with wood or paint, or by simply staining them.
  • Another great project is a simple bookshelf. Bookshelves can be very attractive and practical woodworking projects. The great thing about bookshelves is that they can be used for many other things. Bookshelves can be used to hold your curios, as an ornamental part of your decor or just simply to hold your video collection.
  • Awnings above exterior windows are a great home improvement project, and are relatively simple and inexpensive. Many homes are placed so that the sun will shine directly into one or more windows during the day. This increases the heat in the room. Awnings are a great way to alleviate this. The frame for an awning can be made out of wooden dowels, which are available at any hardware store. The great thing about this project is that you get to choose the material and color that you want to cover the frame with. To add functionality, try making the awnings so that they can be folded up and latched when not in use.

These are just some of the many ideas you can come up with to enhance your home. There are many other things you can do in woodworking, and you are only limited by your imagination.
